RAFAEL ADVANCED DEFENSE SYSTEMS

RAFAEL

Rafael is a world-leading Developer & Manufacturer of Advanced Weapon Systems, providing forefront Technological Solutions that address the Defensive and Offensive requirements of the Modern Battlefield. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems has been supporting the Indian Defence Forces with State-of-the-Art Systems, during which Rafael has stood by India to supply systems at short notice in operational contingencies, including Air-to-Air, Air Defence, ATGMs, Targeting & Reconnaissance Pods, SDR Communication, etc.

RAFAEL ADVANCED DEFENSE SYSTEMS

Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. Designs, Develops, Manufactures and Supplies a wide range of High-Tech Defence Systems for Air, Land, Sea & Space Applications for the Israel Defence Forces and the Israeli Defence Establishment, as well as for customers worldwide, including India.

Rafael offers its customers a diversified array of Innovative Solutions at the leading-edge of global technology, from Underwater Systems through Naval, Ground and Air Superiority Systems to Space Systems. Rafael is one of Israel’s three largest Defence Companies. Rafael's has excellent technological capabilities and manufactures Systems that surpass their competition. Rafael's field-proven solutions are unique among their kind, and hold a strategic value for the State of Israel and many Nations.

Rafael's President and CEO, Yoav Har-Even said, "We are proud of the way we maintained our financial robustness and stability throughout this challenging and uncertain period. This will allow us to continue to be a growth engine, a major pillar in the security of the State of Israel and a trusted provider of the most High-End Technology to our Partners around the world."

As far as Onboard Air Solutions, Rafael presents those as a comprehensive package that turns any Platform into a 4.5 Generation Platform. Rafael's Air Warfare Systems are among the best in the world, stand-alone, or in combination as an Integrated Suite that acts as part of a Net-Centric Array that once installed on any Platform, to give it Advanced-Generation Capabilities. This Integration essentially turns the Weapon Systems Officer (WSO) or the Pilot, into an Intelligence and Decision-making Officer, controlling the mission, not the Weapon, helping to dramatically decrease their workload. For example, combining new technology, such as Automatic Autonomous Target Recognition and Artificial Intelligence, is changing the way missiles are used in war. These technologies help missiles identify and track multiple targets at the same time and use what is called “deep learning” to process data, taking some of the workload off the Aircrew.

An Unique NCW Array connects Rafael's End-to-End Air Systems, which include the Air-to-Air Derby MK-III & Python-5, its Air-to-Surface Munitions (SPICE Family), which use (AI) for Autonomous Capabilities, and Electro-Optical Scene-matching technology, allowing the weapon to act independently of GPS, as well the Litening EO/IR Targeting Pods and the Reccelite XR Reconnaissance Pods, which operate from large Stand-Off Ranges (exceeding 100 km) using the most Advanced EO/IR Technology. The ability to bring these Systems together in a Net-Centric Configuration is provided for by Rafael's BNET SDR Communications Radio, a unique, patented technology, delivering Wideband, with low delay and reliable Connectivity, based on Rafael's Multi-Channel Reception Technology.

RAFAEL IN INDIA
The Python 5 & Derby Missiles are in Service in the IAF as part of the SPYDER LLQRM programme and as Air-to-Air Missiles on the LCA. These Missiles and their Advanced Versions will be part of future Air-to-Air & Air Defence programmes in the Air Force and the Army. Both missiles can potentially be integrated on LCA, HAWK, Su-30MKI or any other Combat Aircraft in the IAF.

For over two decades, Rafael already works with the different branches of the Indian Military and the Indian Security apparatus and has cooperated to integrate its Electro-Optical Systems, Advanced Ordnance, as well as its Air-to-Air and Air Defence Systems into the Indian Defence Systems. Over the last few years, Rafael has continued to realise its commitment to the Indian market, including last summer's inauguration of a State-of-the-Art Facility at Hardware Technology Park, Hyderabad for local manufacturing of the SDR BNET Communication System for the Indian Air Force, with a US$ 30 Million order. Rafael has placed a US$ 100 Million order for Barak-8/MRSAM Missile Kits for the Indian Army and Air Force from KRAS (Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems Ltd., India). This, among other steps, is part of Rafael's compliance with the ‘Make-in-India’ Policy of the Indian Government and is testimony to Rafael's global commitment to local production, knowledge transfer and industrial cooperation. Rafael also announced that substantial share of its Air Defence portfolio is now made in India by its Joint Venture, Kalyani Rafael Advanced Systems (KRAS).

Smart Aerial Missile Systems
Air Superiority and Unparalleled Performance: Rafael’s wide range of missiles provides a decisive advantage for diverse combat requirements - from Air-to-Air, Surface-to-Air and Air-to-Ground Missiles, to Sparrow Target Missiles. Rafael’s Air-to-Air Missiles provide unparalleled performance and Air Superiority for the 21st-Century Pilot. Their effectiveness and capabilities are combat-tested by the Israeli Air Force and include: I-DERBY Short-to-Medium Range BVR Air-to-Air and Surface-to-Air Missile; I-DERBY ER Short, Medium, and Long-Range Air-to-Air and Surface-to-Air Missile; PYTHON-5 Full Sphere IIR Air-to-Air and Surface-to-Air Missile.

Rafael’s Air-to-Surface Missiles assure Navigation, Targeting, Homing, Precision-Strikes in austere, GPS-denied arenas, using affordable, advanced EO/IR Scene-matching technologies. They are combat-proven and in Service at several leading International Air Forces and the Israeli Air Force, which include: ROCKS Advanced, Long-Range, Stand-Off Air-to-Surface Missile; Spice 2000 - 2000 lb. Warhead Guidance Kit; Spice 1000 - 1000 lb Warhead Guidance Kit; Spice 250 New-Gen. Stand-Off Precision Guided Munitions.

Target Missiles: Sparrow Air-Launched Ballistic Target Missiles Simulate Trajectories, Re-entry Manoeuvers & Signatures of various Ballistic Missiles. The systems enable flexible test capabilities and readiness; Black Sparrow Simulates Short-Range Ballistic Theaters; Blue Sparrow Simulates Unitary and Separable Medium to Long-Range Theaters; Silver Sparrow Simulates Medium Unitary and Separable Range Theaters.

SPYDER Air Defence System
The SPYDER Systems defend large areas against a wide spectrum of threats. System components and interceptors can be flexibly combined, affording different configurations with various ranges and capabilities. All the SPYDER Systems have multiple target engagement capability for dealing with saturation attacks.

The SPYDER Systems incorporate the most advanced Air-to-Air Missiles with proven performance: the PYTHON-5 Dual Waveband IIR Missile, the I-DERBY Active Radar BVR and the I-DERBY ER Long-Range Missile. The Missiles can also be used for Air-to-Air Missions. The SPYDER Family has autonomous capabilities, detecting threats while on-the-move and firing instantly after halt. SPYDER Systems enable a 360° Launch within seconds of the target being declared hostile, and provide All-Weather, Multi-Launch, and Net-Centric Capabilities. SPYDER’s Open Architecture Design enables the integration of external components (such as Radars) and cooperation with selected local industry.
Benefits: Operational and Combat-proven Systems; Mobile Quick Reaction; Effective against large threat set; Open Architecture and reconfigurable; Commonality with Air-to-Air Missiles; Cyber hardened; Search-on-the-Move, fire-on-halt.

Capabilities: The SPYDER-SR and SPYDER-ER 360° Slant Launching Missile Systems provide Quick Reaction, Lock-On-Before-Launch (LOBL) and Lock-On-After Launch (LOAL) Capabilities, while extending the range of defence to up to a 40 km radius. SPYDER-MR and SPYDER-LR offer Medium & Long Range Target Interception through Vertical Launch, while pushing the Defence Envelope up to 80 km radius. Both Systems enable a 360° Launch within seconds of the target being declared hostile and provide All-Weather, Multi-Launch, and Net-Centric Capabilities. The SPYDER Systems have advanced ECCM Capabilities and use Electro-Optical Observation Payloads and Wireless Data-Link Communication.

The Israel Missile Defence Organisation (IMDO), of the Directorate for Defense R&D in the Ministry of Defense, together with the U.S. Missile Defense Agency (MDA), have successfully completed a series of live-fire Intercept Tests of the David's Sling Weapon System, against threat-representative Cruise and Ballistic Missiles. The tests conducted were led by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., from a testing site in Central Israel, with the participation of the Israel Air Force and Navy. The series tested the capabilities of a new and advanced version of the David's Sling Weapon System, and included a number of scenarios simulating future threats. The results of this test will enable IMDO and industry engineers to evaluate and Upgrade the System's Capabilities.

The IMDO and Rafael also successfully demonstrated the capabilities of the Iron Dome in intercepting a variety of threats including UAVs and Cruise Missiles. The test also demonstrated the Interoperability of the Multi-Layer Air Defence Mechanism (Arrow, David's Sling, and Iron Dome). This indicates that the Systems will be capable of intercepting threats simultaneously during conflict. Rafael is the Prime Contractor for the development of the David's Sling Weapon System, in cooperation with U.S. Raytheon Technologies. IAI’s ELTA Division developed the MMR Radar and Elbit Systems developed the Golden Almond BMC. David's Sling is a significant component of Israel's Multi-Layer Air Defence Mechanism, consisting of four layers: Iron Dome, David's Sling, Arrow-2 and Arrow-3. These are all operational in the Israel Air Force.

Executive VP and Head of Rafael's Air & Missile Defense Division,  Brig. Gen. (Res.) Pini Yungman said: "The capability that was demonstrated in this series of tests ensures the security of Israel and its ability to contend with current and future threats. When the different systems in the Multi-Layered Mechanism are combined, they can handle a variety of simultaneous threats and defend  citizens of Israel."

SPIKE SR Precision Tactical Guided Missile Capabilities Demonstrated in Estonia
The EDF (Estonian Defence Forces) has completed a firing of SPIKE SR (Short-Range) Missiles in a demonstration that took place in September. EuroSpike's (a European Joint Venture between Rafael Advanced Defense Systems, Diehl Defence and Rheinmettal Defence) SPIKE SR is part of the wider, Multi-Platform, Multi-Purpose, Multi-Range SPIKE Family of Electro-Optical Missiles. It is an advanced, Shoulder-Launched, Guided Missile, designed for Modern Infantry Warfare. SPIKE SR benefits include a light-weight of only 10kg, operational simplicity, and an enhanced range of 2000 meters. SPIKE SR's ease-of-use allows the lower echelon Infantry to qualify rapidly and to sustain a high level of operation with almost no continuous training. During the demo, the EDF evaluated the System's operation & fired two SPIKE SR Missiles successfully, with precise target hits.

In addition to the firing of live rounds, the EDF activated the different training means of the Weapon System, including Outdoor and Indoor Trainers. The EDF also evaluated the high level of portability of the SPIKE SR, and the highly-effective tandem HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank) Warheads, which allow advanced modern Armour Penetration, and the critical Stand-Off Range of 2000m. These capabilities enhance Infantry Crew survivability when facing today's modern tank threat that includes better armour, greater stand-off ranges and Advanced Optics, which place ATGM Units at risk. With  its very low signature and single-soldier operation, SPIKE SR enables Forces to ‘shoot-and-scoot’ without exposing their location. This is a crucial capability for both high intensity conflict, when facing an Armoured invasion, as well as in Hybrid Warfare, when proxy Armoured Forces operate to hold ground.

Packed in a 98 cm long Canister, SPIKE SR is highly Portable, allowing Infantry to easily and rapidly deploy with the weapon in any Ground Infantry Manoeuver. In September 2019, the Estonian MoD signed a 40M Euro Framework agreement with Eurospike for the supply of SPIKE LR ATGM’s, Launchers & Associated Maintenance & Training. The contract includes ICLU (Integrated Control Launch Units) Launchers and live SPIKE Rounds.
