The DefExpo India Pavilion - a marque pavilion of Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence, showcased the maturity of Indigenous Defence Products, Start-Ups, latest technology, including Artificial Intelligence in Defence, and presented India’s Vision for 2047. It was named ‘Path to Pride’.

‘Path to Pride’: Biggest-Ever DefExpo, Exclusively for Indian Companies
Addressing the curtain raiser press conference in Gandhinagar, Raksha Mantri Rajnath Singh said, DefExpo 2022 showcases the growing prowess of the Domestic Defence Industry, which is one of the major drivers of the Nation’s resolve to achieve ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ as envisioned by the Prime Minister. The biennial exhibition has been organised to support, showcase and forge partnerships for the Indian Aerospace and Defence Manufacturing Sectors with Indian as well as global customers to achieve the overall objective of catering to domestic requirements, while fulfilling the needs of friendly foreign countries.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh termed DefExpo 2022, exclusively for Indian companies, as a humble tribute of an ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, who was the pillar of the Swadeshi movement.

“DefExpo 2022 during ‘Amrit Kaal’ reflects India's resolve to be among the leading Nations in the Defence & Aerospace Sectors in the next 25 years. We are swiftly moving towards becoming the pioneers in design, development and manufacturing at a global level. We are witnessing a transformational journey from being the largest Defence Importer to a Net Exporter. This DefExpo will further accelerate the pace of this journey,” he added.

The Raksha Mantri described 'Path to Pride' as not just a theme of DefExpo 2022, but a ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ vision of a ‘New India’. He called it a continuous process in which all the stakeholders - Public and Private Sectors, MSMEs, Academia, Start-Ups and Research & Development Establishments – work together with the aim to provide innovative ideas and state-of-the-art products to the world.

Organised in the largest-ever total area of over one lakh sqm (previous edition being 76,000 sqm) and with record registration of 1,340 companies, DefExpo India 2022 was the biggest DefExpo till date. For the first time, the event was organised in a four-venue format. The Inaugural Ceremony and Seminars were held at Mahatma Mandir Convention & Exhibition Centre; Exhibition at Helipad Exhibition Centre; Live Demonstrations at Sabarmati River Front and Ship Visits for public at Porbandar. The first three days were business days, while the last two days were reserved for public.

DefExpo 2022 was the first-ever edition exclusively for Indian companies. Indian Companies, Indian Subsidiaries of Foreign OEMs, Divisions of company registered in India, Exhibitors having Joint Ventures with an Indian company were permitted to exhibit as Indian participants. The DefExpo 2022 also marked the celebration of one year of the formation of the seven new Defence Companies, carved out of the erstwhile Ordnance Factory Board. All these companies participated in DefExpo for the first time.

The India Pavilion - a marque pavilion of Department of Defence Production, showcased the maturity of Indigenous Defence Products, Start-Ups and latest technology, including Artificial Intelligence in Defence, while presenting India’s Vision for 2047. In addition, there was an exclusive Innovations for Defence Excellence (iDEX) Pavilion to showcase the prowess of the country’s Start-Ups carrying out R&D and Innovation in Futuristic Technologies.

Will DefExpo 2022 Propel ‘AtmaNirbharta’ in Defence to Next Level?
The 12th and largest-ever DefExpo 2022 marked the emergence of India’s Defence Industry as a sunrise sector for investment on the global scale in line with the theme of the expo – ‘Path to Pride’. The five-day event witnessed unparalleled participation of over 1,340 exhibitors, businesses, investors, Start-Ups, MSMEs, Armed Forces and delegates from several countries, with engagements spread over four venues. The overwhelming response of investors and businesses, as per a MoD release, showed that the objective of a Defence Sector worth US$ 22 Billion, with exports of Rs. 35,000 crore by 2025, will be achieved. The best minds of Defence Sector came together at over 20 Seminars across three business days to brainstorm over wide ranging topics on Defence Research and Development, new technologies for Air Warfare, Indigenisation of Defence Production, promotion of exports and encouraging investments.

Conclusion of 451 MoUs, Transfer of Technology Agreements, product launches and orders to domestic businesses, worth Rs. 1.5 lakh crore, reflected India’s progress towards achieving ‘AtmaNirbharta’ in Defence and integration between the Armed Forces requirements, R&D and Defence Production by Public and Private players. Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister welcomed the delegates to the event of a capable and ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ both as a Prime Minister and as a son of Gujarat. Remarking on the organisation of the DefExpo 2022, the Prime Minister said it paints a picture of ‘New India’ and its capabilities whose resolve is being forged at the time of Amrit Kaal. He added that it is an amalgamation of the country’s development as well as states’ cooperation. “It has the power and dreams of the youth, it has the resolve and capabilities of the youth. It has hopes for the world and opportunities for friendly Nations,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister remarked that it provides a glimpse of the capability and possibility of India in one single frame. He further informed that more than 400 MoUs are being signed for the first time ever. The second India-Africa Defence Dialogue will also take place on this occasion, the Prime Minister informed. This affinity for Africa is still central to India's foreign policy. During the Corona period, when the whole world was worried about the vaccine, India delivered the vaccine giving priority to our friendly countries in Africa,” he said.

The 2nd Indian Ocean Region Plus (IOR+) Conclave which  provides a stage for a comprehensive dialogue to promote defence cooperation amongst IOR+ Nations to foster peace, growth, stability and prosperity, in line with the Prime Minister's Vision for Security and Growth for All in the Region (SAGAR).
