AERO INDIA SHOW DAILY DAY 1: AERO INDIA 2025 SHOW PREVIEW
Aero India 2025, the 15th International Aerospace & Defence Exhibition & Air Show in its 29th Year, is being organised by the Ministry of Defence from 10th to 14th February 2025 at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru, with about 800 Aerospace, Aviation & Defence companies/organisations from about 30 Countries, with above 100 Foreign Exhibitors, showcasing their products including Platforms, Weapons, Equipment & Systems, Components, Services, etc. IAF’s Dassault Aviation Rafale & Mirage 2000, Su-30MKI, LCA Tejas Mk-1A, Jaguar, AJT Hawk, DRDO-Embraer EMB-145I AEW&C Netra, C-130J-30, & HAL Helicopters - ALH MkIII & MkIV, LCH, LUH, with Do-228, Hawk-i, HTT-40 & IJT, are participating with the Boeing P-8I, C-17, Apache, Chinook, Embraer C-390, besides other Civil & Military Aircraft. The focus will be on the MRFA, LCA AF Mk-II, AMCA, AFA and Naval Fighters.
Aero India 2025: The Runway to a Billion Opportunities
The 15th Edition of Aero India 2025 is being held at the Air Force Station, Yelahanka in Bengaluru, Karnataka from February 10th to 14th, 2025. With the broad theme ‘The Runway to a Billion Opportunities’, the event provides a platform for forging partnerships between foreign & Indian firms and the discovery of newer avenues in the global value chain to accelerate the indigenisation process.
The Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India, is organising the biennial Aero India 2025, the 15th International Aerospace Exhibition in its 29th Year, which focuses on 'Make-in-India' AtmaNirbhar Bharat in Aerospace, Defence, Civil Aviation, Airport Infrastructure and Defence Engineering, providing a significant platform in bolstering business opportunities in the International Aviation, Aerospace & Defence Sectors.
The first three days of the event (February 10th, 11th & 12th) are business days, while 13th & 14th have been set as public days to allow people to witness the show. The event includes both Air Displays and Static Displays of exhibits of a large array of Military Platforms from the Aerospace & Defence Sector.
Aero India 2025 is one of Asia’s largest Aerospace and Defence Exhibitions & Air Shows organised to encourage maximum participation of Indian & International Companies. Besides Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, the Inaugural Ceremony will be attended by Governor & CM of Karnataka, Civil Aviation Minister, Raksha Rajya Mantri Sanjay Seth, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A. P. Singh, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Production Secretary Sanjeev Kumar, Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development (DDR&D) and Chairman, Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) Dr. Samir V. Many Ministers, Ambassadors, Defence & Air Attaches and Delegates are attending Aero India 2025, which provides a platform for exchange of ideas and to forge Partnerships in the Aerospace and Defence Sectors.
The event comprises a curtain raiser event, inaugural event, Defence Ministers’ Conclave, CEOs’ Round-Table, iDEX Start-Up event, breath-taking Air Shows, a large exhibition area comprising India Pavilion and a trade fair of Aviation, Aerospace & Defence Companies.
To facilitate dialogue towards Strategic Partnerships with friendly countries, India is hosting the Defence Ministers’ Conclave on the theme ‘BRIDGE - Building Resilience through International Defence and Global Engagement’. It encapsulates the dynamic geopolitical conditions and the path to mutual prosperity, which can be BRIDGED through Cooperation among Nations with shared vision of Security and Development.
A number of bilateral meetings are planned at the levels of Raksha Mantri, Raksha Rajya Mantri, Chief of Defence Staff and Secretary among others on the sidelines of the event. The focus is on bolstering the Defence and Aerospace ties with friendly countries by exploring newer avenues to take the partnership to the next level.
The CEOs’ Round-Table is expected to provide a favourable platform to Foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (FOEMs) for manufacturing in India. Global CEOs, CMDs of Domestic PSUs and premier Private Defence & Aerospace Manufacturing Companies from India are participating in the event.
The India Pavilion showcases India’s commitment to its Make-in-India initiative by showcasing Indigenous Defence Manufacturing Capabilities and Cutting-Edge Technologies ready for the global stage, including the future prospects. Promotion of Indian Start-Ups is a focus area at Aero India 2025 and a wide spectrum of State-of-the-Art Technologies/products developed by them are showcased at an exclusive iDEX Pavilion.
In addition, dynamic Aerobatic Displays and live Technology Demonstrations provide an immersive experience, showcasing the potential of modern Aerospace Platforms and Technologies. A number of Seminars on various important themes are also being held as part of the event.
Aero India 2025 is a shining example of India’s growing capabilities and the presence of around 100 Nations visitors at this event shows the trust that the entire world shows in India. With the participation of more than 800 Exhibitors, including Indian MSMEs and Start-Ups along with the well-renowned companies of the world.
India has now become a promising manufacturing destination due to its business-friendly environment and cost-competitiveness. The growth story of the Indian Aerospace & Defence Sector has come a long way in the last few years and India's journey towards becoming a Defence Manufacturing Hub is progressing.
Aero India has already carved a niche for itself globally as a Premier Aerospace Exhibition with 14 successful editions organised since 1996 in Bengaluru. The last edition achieved remarkable milestones as it attracted over seven lakh visitors, dignitaries from 98 countries and 809 exhibitors including businesses, investors, Start-Ups & MSMEs. Over 250 Partnerships, including 201 MoUs, major announcements, product launches and Technology Transfers worth more than Rs. 75,000 crore, were witnessed. The 2025 Edition aims to surpass these achievements, and promises to be even bigger in scope and grandeur.
Aero India 2025 showcases design leadership, growth in Unmanned-Uncrewed Sector, Defence, Space and Futuristic Technologies. The event aims to promote export of Indigenous Air Platforms with over 50 Aircraft on display like the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas Mk-1A, HTT-40, Dornier, Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand and Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv and Rudra WSI. It enables integrating the Domestic Companies, MSMEs & Start-Ups in Global Supply Chains & attracts foreign investments with partnerships for co-development and co-production in India.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh Says, “Aerospace Power is the New Frontier of Military Dominance, which Acts as Strategic Deterrence”
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has called for enhanced cohesiveness of the global community in view of the current security environment which, he said, is in a state of flux with multiple conflicts and challenges. Addressing the Ambassadors’ Round-Table, organised as a prelude to Aero India 2025, in New Delhi on January 10th, 2025, Raksha Mantri stressed on the need to overcome the present geopolitical tensions for ensuring mutual prosperity and global peace.
“It is of paramount importance that the like-minded countries should strive together for collective actions for peace and prosperity. Without these, our future generations will not be able to take advantage of economic growth or Technological Innovations that we are experiencing in today’s era,” Rajnath Singh told the Ambassadors and High Commissioners of various countries attending the event.
Raksha Mantri pointed out that India is emerging as a leading voice for the Global South, and it advocates for a multi-aligned policy approach, which ensures that diverse views are considered in the collective pursuit of prosperity.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described Aero India, Asia’s largest Aeroshow, as one such event, where Nations come together and form bonds beyond boundaries. Elaborating on the vision behind the biennial event, he stated that it has proven itself to be the meeting ground for the Aerospace and Defence Sectors to showcase their products/technologies. He defined it as a forum to forge Strategic Partnerships towards increasing opportunities for business, Transfer of Technology, Joint Development and co-production between various industries.
Raksha Mantri emphasised that, today, India possesses one of the largest Defence Industrial Ecosystems in Asia and the Government is committed to further enhancing the capabilities. He added that the Indian Aerospace and Defence Sector represents an attractive opportunity for foreign companies seeking to establish new ventures & partnerships. He cited the significant milestone of setting-up of the Manufacturing Facility of C-295 Transport Aircraft for the Indian Air Force through collaboration between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Airbus Defence & Space.
Rajnath Singh asserted that India has emerged as an attractive destination for investment, and Aero India 2025 presents an opportunity for friendly Nations to jointly explore strengths and capabilities in the Defence Sector, addressing both strategic needs as well as tactical requirements. He added that the event will facilitate industry captains, technology leaders, intellectuals and entrepreneurs with new avenues for collaboration in Defence Industrial Enterprises. “Aero India 2025 will serve as a vital forum for exploring partnerships that will form the base for future challenges. Together, we can create pathways for growth that are inclusive and sustainable,” he said.
Raksha Mantri emphasised that Air and Space Power have become pivotal elements in shaping strategies as such Assets, incorporated with Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Systems, provide an unprecedented advantage in battle-field scenarios. He described Aerospace Power as the new frontier of Military Dominance which acts as Strategic Deterrence.
Highlighting India’s focus on Self-Reliance through Strategic Partnership and Technological Collaborations in Defence & Aerospace Sectors, RM Rajnath Singh said: “In recent years, the Government has brought about several transformative policy reforms aimed at bolstering a robust Defence Industry Ecosystem. This includes initiatives that promote Domestic Design, Development, Manufacturing and Exports. Recognising its strategic importance and vast potential, the Government has designated Aerospace as one of the core sectors of ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’. As a result of this, Aerospace and Defence in India is taking significant strides in developing cutting-edge technologies, both through Public as well as Private Industry participation.
Raksha Mantri looked forward to welcoming the Ministers, Officials and Business Delegations from various countries at Aero India 2025 and utilising the platform to explore newer areas for enhancing collaboration.

Infact, in the last few years in view of the LAC Stand-Off, the Indian Defence Forces utilizing “Emergency Powers” have procured Billions of Dollars worth Defence Platforms, Weapons, Equipment & Systems directly from Foreign OEMs and Indian Defence Manufacturers, creating a reserve and partly fulfilling some gaps in Defence Supplies.
Industrial licensing requirements have been eliminated for a number of items in the Defence Sector, with several companies having taken Defence Licences. Business leaders from across the globe are invited to take advantage of the various initiatives of Government of India and set-up Manufacturing Units in India.
Aero India is inspired by the theme of ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’, with the Flying Displays features formations showcasing India’s cutting-edge technology and capabilities in the Aerospace Sector. The MoD’s Department of Defence Production has taken upon itself the mantle of making the ‘Make-in-India’ in Defence Production a success story. However, there is still a long way to go. Aero India 2025 provides a platform for interaction with the stalwarts of the Aerospace, Aviation, Defence & Security Sectors, showcasing the displays of some of the best present and future global business alliances being formed in India, getting a further boost, with technological displays of high standards and numerous industrial interactions, besides some deals negotiations also taking place.
India’s Aerospace & Defence Programmes
From the ongoing acquisitions of 114 Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) for the IAF and 26 Carrier-Borne Fighters for Indian Navy; and the Utility Helicopter - Maritime (UH-Ms), and Deck-Based Multi-Role Helicopters (DBMRHs), and Deck-Based UAS, Combat RPAS MQ-9Bs & other Drones, to the Indigenous Development of the Drishti 10 Starliner MALE Maritime UAS of Adani-Elbit Systems, Kamakazi Drones, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH), India’s Aerospace, Aviation & Defence Sectors have much to offer for the Industry with the two upcoming - MRFA for IAF & the Indian Navy’s Carrier-Borne Fighters, LCA Mk-1A, LCA Mk-2, Trainers, Medium Weight Fighter (MWF), AFA, 5th Generation AMCA, AWACS/AEW&Cs Mk-1As & Mk-IIs, Missiles & other Weapons & Sensors Projects. The Indian Coast Guard too has aircraft/helicopters acquisitions in the pipeline.
The theme for Aero India 2025 is Indigenisation, driving home the ‘Make-in-India’ initiative, with ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’, while the fact remains that India is still the largest importer of Defence Hardware worldwide and is still currently globally supplied about 60% of India’s Weaponry. The MoD has repeatedly declared that India should source 70% of its Defence needs indigenously. Global Majors are in the process of consolidating Partnerships with Indian Aerospace & Defence Producers to make them a part of the Global Supply Chains. Many tie-ups with Indian companies are also driven by Foreign Vendors’ Offsets Liabilities (with some changes in the Offset Policy Guidelines), which accrue from Defence Sales to India. Many of the world’s leading players in Aerospace, Defence & Security Platforms, Equipments and Systems, and Civil Aviation & Space-related Industries, have a large presence at Aero India 2025, showcasing their Aircraft, Rotorcraft, UAVs, Models, Missiles, PGMs, Weaponry, latest Equipments and Systems, Avionics, Components, Ordnance, Optronics, Engineering Services, Simulation, Tools, besides all the new age Digital Technologies, AI, etc.
Besides the participation of Dassault Aviation, Safran Group, Thales & MBDA, the major Partners of the French Rafale International Team, the Aero India 2025 Air Show is again dominated by the Two Future Fighters - MRFA for the IAF & the Carrier-Borne Fighter for the Indian Navy, and on the large Upgrade programme for 84 Su-30MKIs, and is also focussed on the Rotorcraft Industries’ four Helicopter Projects of the Indian Defence Forces, namely Utility Helicopter - Maritme (UH-Ms), the MH-60R Weapons & Equipment, and 156 Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) Prachand and its weaponisation, and the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), with HAL’s new Medium-Heavy 13 Tons Indian Multi-Role Helicopter (IMRH) Project also fructifying. Then there are the LCA Tejas Variants with 83 LCA Tejas Mk-1As (& AoN for an additional 97 LCA Mk-1As), large number of LCA Mk-IIs, LCA & Turboprop Trainers, and also the 56 Tata-Airbus C295 MTAs, Competitions for IAF’s New Generation Refuellers, then 50 to 60 Next-Generation Multi-Mission Transporters, AWACS/AEW&Cs Mk-IIs, Special Mission Aircraft, the DRDO-ADE’s Remotely Piloted Strike Aircraft (RPSA) Project, Combat UAS & Upgrading of all current UAVs, HALE & MALE UAS, Small UAS & Rotary/VTOL UAS, Micro Drones, which are also in focus at Aero India 2025. Airbus and Tata are about to manufacture the Airbus H-125 Helicopter in India as well.
Besides the Air elements, there are several most Advanced Air & Missile Defence Systems Projects for the New Generation Air Defence Network, including the LRSAM, MRSAM, SRSAM Weapon Systems, Akash Weapon System, SAMAR, QRSAM, IADWS, VSHORADS, and CIWS, together forming the National Integrated Air Defence Shield, which is a subset of the National Air Integrated and Space Defence Shield of India having Sensors, Shooters, Commmand & Control and Communications.
Inaugural Fly Past
The Aero India Inaugural Session has three Mi-17 V-5 Helicopters flying past the dais in ‘Vic’ Formation carrying the Indian Tricolour, the Air Force Ensign and the Aero India flag. The Air Display also has a solitary vintage Dakota flying by the stands. A host of indigenously manufactured Helicopters including the LUH, ALH Mk-III & IV, and LCHs fly past.
There will be the ALH Mk-IV (Rudra), Apaches, Chinooks, Mi-17V(5), DRDO-ADA Embraer EMB-145I AEW&C, indigenous Dornier Do-228, Hawk-i, HTT-40, Su-30MKI, LCA Tejas and Jaguar, with a flying display of the IAF”s Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT). The IAF’s C-130J-30 Super Hercules and Globemaster-III are also present. Fighter Jets thunder over the grandstand through the skies displaying a host of Aerobatic Manoeuvres – the IAF’s Su-30MKI, Tejas LCA and the French Rafale Fighter. The Sarang Helicopter Aerobatics Display Team enthralls the spectators with their performance. Above 50 aircraft participate in the event.
The awe-inspiring manoeuvres by various types of Aircraft and Formations enthrall the audience, every day. The Flying Displays are appreciated by one and all with immaculate precision painting a colourful aerial symphony in the clear Bengaluru skies every day, the display by the Sarang Helicopter Aerobatics Display Team and Surya Kiran Aerobatic Teams mesmerises everyone attending.
HAL’s ‘AtmaNirbhar Formation Flight’
As part of Aero India 2025, HAL displays a unique ‘AtmaNirbhar Formation Flight’ of 15 Helicopters consisting of all Variants of Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH), ‘Prachand’ Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), and the Light Utility Helicopter (LUH). The Fixed-Wing front witnesses the LCA Twin-Seater Variant, Hawk-i, Intermediate Jet Trainer (IJT) and Hindustan Turbo Trainer (HTT)-40 Aircraft. This unique flying display of HAL’s Indigenous Platforms (both Fixed and Rotary-Wing) aptly titled ‘AtmaNirbhar Formation Flight’ are part of the Flying Display during Aero India 2025. HAL showcases its prowess in Defence and Aerospace Sector. The HAL products such as the LCA Tejas Mk-1, Mk-1A, Mk-II, LCA Trainer (LIFT Trainer), HTT-40, IJT, Advanced Hawk Mk132 and Civil Do-228, are showcased, along with the Sukhoi-30MKI, Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) Dhruv, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), which also take part in the Flying Displays. However, due to an accident, the ALH Dhruvs are currently grounded all over India, so if that is not lifted before the show, they will not be flying. Static Displays include the Dornier Do-228, Hindustan Turboprop Trainer HTT-40, LUH and ALH Mk-III & Mk-IV Helicopters.
Aircraft Flying & Static Displays
The Aerial Displays like last time should include the range of Helicopters, and Fighter Jets like F-35, F-16, Rafale, Su-30MKI, LCA Tejas, etc. taking over the skies. Aptly keeping with the ‘Make-in-India’ theme, the indigenous creations - Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas & LCA Trainer, and the Light Combat Helicopter (LCH), Light Utility Helicopter (LUH), ALH Dhruv Mk-III & Mk-IV and Rudra Variants showcase India’s technological leap in Aircraft Production. The IAF’s Rafale & Sukhoi-30MKI keep the gathering spellbound with their versatility and agility. There are impressive displays by the Rafale Fighters & U.S. Fighters as well. After the deafening roars of the Jets, Aerial stunts are also performed by the IAF’s Hawk Surya Kirans (SKAT) and Sarang ALHs Aerobatic Display Teams, enthralling the audience at the Bengaluru Air Show. The show-stopping moment is provided by ‘Sarang’, the IAF’s Helicopter Display Team in their sprightly coloured, peacock-themed, Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs). Thousands witness the aerial spectacle of Daily Flying Displays even as serious business deals get negotiated, propelling ‘Self-Reliance in Defence Production’ in keeping with the credo - ‘Make-in-India, Make for the World’ & ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’.
Above 50 aircraft participate in the Static and Air Displays, with scintillating and enthralling Aerobatics. The Air Show is an attraction for Aviation aficionados who attend the event in large numbers to witness the Static and Air Displays by various aircraft, including fighters, transporters, helicopters and Aerobatics Display Teams, with significant crowds gathering. IAF’s Rafale Fighters also perform Manoeuvre Displays, while the indigenously-made Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Tejas, HTT-40 Turboprop Trainer, Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) and Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) also demonstrate their air prowess. Some of the aircraft on Static Display include IAF’s Dassault Aviation Rafale Fighter, Hawk Mk.132 AJT, IAF’s C-130J-30 Super Hercules, DRDO-ADA Embraer EMB-145I AEW&C, Army Aviation’s ALH Dhruv Mk-III, HAL LUH, HAL BTA HTT-40, ALH WSI Rudra, ALH Mk-IV, HAL LCH, HAL Dornier Do-228, DRDO-ADA LCA Tejas, LCA Mk.1 Trainer, Tapas BH-201 (Rustom-II) UAV, Su-30MKI, Jaguar, Mirage 2000I/TI, Mi-17V, Dakota, MiG-27 UPG, MiG-21 Bison, P-8I, etc. The Embraer Defense & Security’s C-390 Millennium Multi-Role Transport Aircraft had made its Aero India debut at Yelahanka last time, displays again at Aero India 2025.
HAL’s LCA Tejas Mk-1A
This LCA Tejas Version is aimed to enhance the operational and combat capabilities, survivability and maintainability. Capabilities planned in Mk1A include; Integration of Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, Electronic Warfare Suite (EWS), A4M & BVR Missiles and Air-to-Air Refueling. It is also proposed to Integrate Combined Interrogator and Transponder (CIT), Software Defined Radio (SDR) and Operating Data Link (ODL) with existing onboard Avionics to infuse further capabilities to the aircraft.
International & Indian Exhibitors
At Aero India 2025, France is the largest participant, followed by USA, Russia and Israel. The Air Show offers Military Contractors and Companies a showcase for their Platforms, Systems and Equipment, Components and Services. India continues to be one of the world's largest arms importers today and in the future, with over US$ 150 Billion estimated to be spent in the next few years. Again at Aero India 2025, Swedish Defence and Aerospace Company Saab displays a full-scale Mock-Up of its Gripen E Fighter Jet, along with a range of Defence & Security Systems. To focus on Indigenisation, Saab has outlined a blueprint to fully indigenise Gripen E Production in India under the Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA) programme, with a 2018 RFI for 114 MRFA for the IAF. Saab is keen to support local manufacturing of the Gripen E in India. Unlike systems that require Upgrades from the OEM, the Gripen E's Modular Software allows technicians to execute Updates within two to three days, a process that can take much longer. The Gripen E has a diverse range of weapons & can include Indian-made Munitions.
