Successful GIFAS Mission to Strengthen Indo-French Aerospace Cooperation & Support ‘Make-in-India’ Policy

GIFAS, the French Aerospace Industries Association, a driving force behind French-Indian Cooperation, led a major industrial mission to India from 16th to 19th April 2018. This mission was an exceptional opportunity for the Indian and French Aerospace Industries to meet and explore common fields of win-win cooperation, and all its objectives had been achieved. Drawing on the very constructive State Visit to India of French President Emmanuel Macron in March 2018, this GIFAS Mission hence supported the commitment of French Industries to the ‘Make-in-India’ Policy, in the fields of Aerospace, Defence and Space.

Eric Trappier, the Chairman of GIFAS and Chairman of CIDEF (Council of French Defence Industries), led this French mission. In New Delhi and Bangalore, he met with Ministers and officials such as Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of Defence, Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Civil Aviation, Dr. Subhash Bhamre, Minister of State for Defence, Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, etc.

The delegation made stops in New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad, where more than 390 Business-to-Business Meetings were co-organised with SIDM (Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers) and CII (Confederation of Indian Industry). They brought together the sectors' companies from both countries, with two Seminars held dedicated to the "Indo-French Defence & Aerospace Cooperation". A MoU between GIFAS and SIDM (Society of Indian Defence Manufacturers) was signed to promote Partnerships and Cooperation.

60 French Aerospace Industrial Companies participated. The major Aviation and Space players representing both Civilian and Defence business interests were present - Airbus, Ariane Group, Dassault Aviation, MBDA, Safran and Thales - not to mention 54 Sub-contractors, Suppliers, SMEs and Equipment Manufacturers.

The Chairman of GIFAS, Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, said: "This GIFAS visit is a real success. Cooperation in the areas of Aeronautics and Space will be strengthened by all the meetings and interactions we got this week and the measures now to implement. We are glad to contribute to the ‘Make- in-India’ Policy and strengthen the Strategic Partnership between India and France".

While supporting the commitment of the French Industries to the ‘Make-in-India’ Policy, the Mission aimed to accelerate the development of the Industrial Eco-System in India in the field of Defence and Aerospace, supporting the growth of Civil Aviation in India, and to contribute to the emergence of Private Industry in the field of Space as well.
Eric Trappier, the Chairman of GIFAS and Chairman of CIDEF (Council of French Defence Industries), enlisted 60 French Aerospace Industrial Companies for this outward mission to further French-Indian Cooperation efforts.

Cooperation in the areas of Aeronautics and Space that started in the Fifties, is organised and well established. It has been strengthened by a Strategic Partnership that was established twenty years ago between the two countries.
The Chairman of GIFAS, Eric Trappier, Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation, who led this important mission to India, had earlier stated: “GIFAS is impatient to start this visit. It will prove that French Industry is Partnering with all the stakeholders in India and looking at a long term involvement, fully in the spirit of the ‘Make-in-India’ Initiative. We are glad to contribute to strengthening the Strategic Partnership between India and France”.

Dassault Aviation Executive Committee Meets in New Delhi, Reaffirms Full Commitment to ‘Make-in-India’ Policy
After the four-days visit of the major Industrial Mission of more than 60 French companies, as part of the GIFAS, the French Aerospace Industries Association, in Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Hyderabad to strengthen French Indian Aerospace Cooperation, Eric Trappier, Chairman of the GIFAS and Chairman and CEO of Dassault Aviation held the Dassault Aviation Executive Committee meeting in New Delhi in order to highlight the key importance of India in the company’s vision and his dedication to the success of the ‘Make-in-India’ implementation.

This top-level meeting, organised for the first time outside of the company’s headquarters in Saint Cloud, France, came as a conclusion of several visits from each Director and Teams to main Industrial Partners all around India, Delhi, Bangalore, Pune and in Nagpur, to reinforce the existing links and to finalise the roadmap for the establishment of concrete methods and processes to ensure the efficiency and competitiveness of Dassault Aviation setting-up in India.

In addition to the creation of the Joint Venture, Dassault Reliance Aerospace Limited in April 2015 and the laying of the foundation stone of its Manufacturing Facility in Mihan Nagpur in the end of October 2017, the gathering of the Committee illustrated the company’s commitment to pave the way towards building up an Indian Aero-Defence Manufacturing Eco-System, matching the highest standards in this field and positioning India as an International Supplier Reference in the Global Aerospace market.

It comes after numerous Industrial Seminars held both in France and India to promote Business-to-Business Interactions and to highlight existing and future synergies between the French and Indian Entrepreneurs.
“Dassault Aviation Executive Committee rallies around the huge challenge to highly contribute to the ‘Make-in-India’ and ‘Skill India’ Policies that will lead to India’s self-sufficiency in the Aerospace Domain. Each of them, in its own field of expertise, takes the engagement to set up all the necessary measures to meet the requirement of such an ambitious vision. Dassault Aviation is dedicated to make a success of its establishment in India and to be part of the future of the biggest Republic of the world.” said Eric Trappier at the end of his journey.
